What Makes a Good Kundali Matching App?
Before I tell you about Kundali Milan Pro, let me explain what to look for in any Kundali matching app.
Accuracy of calculations. Most apps get the basic Gun Milan score right but fail on the edge cases — Bhakoot Dosha exceptions, Nadi Dosha cancellation rules, Rajju groupings for Tamil vs Kerala systems. These differences matter when families are making real decisions.
Coverage of all three systems. North Indians rely on Ashta Koota (36-point Gun Milan). South Indians — especially from Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Karnataka — use the 10-factor Porutham system. Tamil Porutham and Kerala Porutham have important differences in Rajju groupings, Yoni calculation, Stree Deergha thresholds and Rasi interpretation. An app that covers only one system is incomplete for most users.
No internet dependency. Marriage matching involves sensitive personal data — names, birth dates, birth places. You should not need to send this to a server every time you generate a report.

Ashta Koota — 36 Point Gun Milan
The North Indian system evaluates eight factors (Kootas) for a maximum of 36 points:
- Varna (1 point) — Spiritual and social compatibility
- Vashya (2 points) — Natural dominance and attraction
- Tara (3 points) — Health and longevity
- Yoni (4 points) — Physical and instinctive compatibility
- Graha Maitri (5 points) — Mental harmony through Moon sign lords
- Gana (6 points) — Temperament matching
- Bhakoot (7 points) — Emotional and financial compatibility
- Nadi (8 points) — Genetic and constitutional compatibility
A score of 18+ is acceptable, 24+ is good, and 32+ is considered excellent. However — and this is critical — even a perfect score of 36 does not guarantee a good marriage without checking Nadi Dosha, Mangal Dosha, Shadastaka analysis and individual horoscope strength.
Kundali Milan Pro calculates all eight Kootas with proper exception rules. Nadi Dosha has 10 classical cancellation rules built in. Bhakoot Dosha correctly identifies Preeti Shadastaka pairs (friendly lords — which are exceptions) separately from Mrityu Shadastaka pairs (enemy lords — which give zero points with no exception).
Tamil Porutham — 10 Factor South Indian System
Tamil Porutham evaluates ten factors based on the Moon nakshatra of the bride and groom. The ten poruthams are Dina, Gana, Mahendra, Stree Deergha, Yoni, Rasi, Rasi Athipathi, Vasya, Rajju and Vedha.
Among these, Rajju and Vedha are the most critical. Their failure is considered strongly inauspicious regardless of other scores.
Tamil Porutham in Kundali Milan Pro is calculated with:
- Dina using both directions — auspicious remainders 0, 2, 4, 6, 8
- Yoni using the complete animal compatibility score table (14×14 matrix)
- Stree Deergha threshold of greater than 13 for Uthamam
- Rasi using Moon sign lord friendship — friends = 1, neutral = 0.5, enemies = 0
- Rajju using the Tamil tradition groupings — Pada, Ooru, Nabhi, Kantha, Sira
Each factor is scored as Uthamam (1 point), Madhyamam (0.5 points) or Athamam (0 points).
Kerala Porutham — Prashna Marga Tradition
Kerala Porutham follows the Prashna Marga tradition and has important differences from Tamil Porutham that most apps miss entirely.
Key differences in Kerala system:
- Rajju uses Kerala-specific groupings — Siro, Kantha, Udara, Kati, Pada — which are different from Tamil groupings. For example, Magha belongs to Kati in Kerala but to Pada in Tamil.
- Yoni checks Male/Female gender of the nakshatra animal — only same animal with the girl having the Female yoni and boy having the Male yoni gives full marks.
- Stree Deergha threshold is greater than 16 (stricter than Tamil’s greater than 13).
- Rasi Athipathi treats neutral lords as Uthamam in Kerala tradition.
- Rasi Porutham uses positional check — 6/8 positions are Athamam, 2/12 are Madhyamam, others are Uthamam.
This is why the same couple can have different scores in Tamil Porutham compared to Kerala Porutham. Kundali Milan Pro is the only app that implements both systems correctly with their distinct rules.
Complete Dosha Analysis
Beyond the compatibility scores, Kundali Milan Pro covers all major doshas:
Nadi Dosha — The most critical dosha in Vedic matching. Same Nadi = Nadi Dosha. Ten classical cancellation rules are implemented including Ekadhipatya, same nakshatra different pada, and the 14 special nakshatra exceptions.
Mangal Dosha (Kuja Dosha) — Mars placed in houses 1, 2, 4, 7, 8 or 12 from Lagna, Moon or Venus. Checked from all three reference points. Paap Samya scoring compares malefic content between both charts. Cancellation rules include own sign, exaltation, aspect of benefics and mutual Mangal dosha.
Shadastaka Analysis — The 6/8 relationship between Moon signs is analysed for both Mrityu Shadastaka (enemy lords — severe friction) and Preeti Shadastaka (friendly lords — attraction despite differences).
Vimshottari Dasha — Marriage timing guidance showing when marriage is most likely based on current planetary periods for both boy and girl.
