Described in the Hora Shastra, it is computed by identifying the lords of the 9th house from both your Ascendant (Lagna) and your Moon sign, assigning their traditional Kala (numerical energy) values, summing those values, and counting the remainder from the Moon sign.
The resulting point in the zodiac becomes your Indu Lagna — a sensitive indicator of where and through what themes wealth energy is concentrated in your life. Its house position from the Ascendant reveals the domain through which this financial potential expresses itself.

The 8th house Indu Lagna can actually indicate wealth through inheritance, spouse's resources, insurance, research, or sudden windfalls. The 12th house can show earnings from foreign sources, large institutions, or spiritual/healing work. These are not negative placements — they are misunderstood ones.

Indu Lagna indicates a thematic affinity for wealth — not a career prescription. A Sagittarius Indu Lagna does not mean you must teach or be in law to earn money. Dhana Yogas
Specific combinations of house lords — particularly 2nd, 5th, 9th, and 11th — that form conjunctions, exchanges, or mutual aspects. These are the actual engines of wealth creation. A chart without active Dhana Yoga rarely produces significant wealth regardless of Indu Lagna placement.
Arudha Lagna
The Arudha Lagna (AL) reveals your public image and the material manifestation of your personality in the world. The 2nd from AL (Dhana Pada) is particularly important for understanding actual financial status and visible prosperity versus inner potential.
Dasha Periods
Even the strongest Dhana Yogas lie dormant until the right Dasha period activates them. Many people with excellent wealth potential go through financially lean years simply because the activating Dasha has not arrived yet. Timing is everything in Jyotish.
2nd House
The house of accumulated wealth, family assets, and financial resources. The strength of the 2nd house lord, planets placed within it, and aspects on it determine your capacity to save, accumulate, and hold wealth once it arrives.
11th House
The house of income, gains, and fulfilment of desires. Considered the most important house for regular income generation. A strong 11th house creates multiple income streams and the ability to benefit from social networks and large-scale opportunities.
Jupiter
The natural Karaka (significator) for wealth, wisdom, and expansion. Jupiter's sign, house, strength, and aspects profoundly influence financial growth. A strong Jupiter blessing the 2nd or 11th house is one of the most reliable indicators of genuine prosperity.
Venus
The natural Karaka for luxury, comforts, and material pleasures. Venus also governs the capacity to attract and enjoy wealth. A strong Venus — particularly when connected to wealth houses — indicates not just financial gain but the enjoyment of abundance.
Why A Calculator Cannot Replace Personal Horoscope Analysis
I have built this calculator because I believe in giving people a genuine starting point for self-inquiry. But I would be doing you a disservice if I did not clearly explain why no automated tool — no matter how accurate its calculation — can substitute for proper astrological analysis:
Planetary strength cannot be automated easily. Each planet has multiple layers of strength — Shadbala, Ashtakavarga points, Vargottama status, directional strength — that must be assessed individually and contextually.
Multiple chart levels interact. Rasi, Navamsa, Dasamsa, and other Varga charts all contribute to financial analysis. A calculator working from Moon sign and Lagna alone cannot access this depth.
Dasha timing is unique to each person. The same planetary configuration produces radically different results depending on which Mahadasha and Antardasha you are currently running. This is time-sensitive and personal.
Context matters enormously. A planet that is a functional malefic for one Lagna can be a benefic for another. Generic interpretations mask this crucial distinction.
The astrologer's experience creates the interpretation. 25 years of observing real charts — seeing patterns, exceptions, and nuances — cannot be encoded into an algorithm. The tool shows you the data; only experience reveals its meaning.
